Manicure Monday: Essie Forever Yummy & Good as Gold
Happy Chinese New Year!
Today, I was really inspired by what is arguably the most celebrated Chinese holiday, and decided to paint my nails red and gold! I chose Essie's Forever Yummy which is just a beautiful red and Essie's Good as Gold.
Both colors are very opaque. I only needed one coat! I used Essie's Grow Stronger Base Coat which I'm still testing out. A review will be out soon!
Application was fine except for a slight streaking problem with the gold. Every time I wanted to evenly distribute the polish I ended up having ugly brush marks instead!
The colors are very beautiful though. I love the depth of the red. In the pictures it look quite like a cherry, bright red but in dimmer lighting it turns into this deep, classic red. I highly recommend this color. It's a basic and look at that opacity!
I received my red color as a gift from my best friend Lucy, actually. It was a holiday kit selling five mini nail polishes for $10. Quite a steal despite the travel size, considering most Essie nail polishes are around $8-$9. If you weren't able to nab the kit, I believe they do sell the color individually.
On my ring finger to get that bit of gold, I opted for Essie's Good as Gold. As you can see, it's a rather metallic gold which I thought would make a nice contrast with the red.
I would say this nail look is a little on the dramatic side (especially under dim lighting because the red becomes darker and the gold really pops out), but Chinese New Year is all about going all out!
See you guys next time and enjoy the festivities! <3
